Advances in Knowledge Organization (AKO)

ISSN: 0938-5495

Managing Editor (2019-): Daniel Martínez-Ávila

Advances in Knowledge Organization (AKO) is an official publication series that presents the peer-reviewed proceedings of the biennial international ISKO conferences. The series showcases original contributions in the field of knowledge organization, reflecting ongoing theoretical, methodological, and applied research.

Each volume in the series corresponds to a specific ISKO conference and gathers scholarly papers centered around the event's main theme. These themes typically address the conceptual foundations, technological developments, and socio-cultural dimensions of organizing knowledge. The series covers a wide range of topics, including classification systems, ontologies, thesauri, metadata structures, indexing languages, and innovations in digital knowledge representation.

AKO functions as a recognized scholarly platform for researchers and professionals across disciplines such as information science, archival science, library studies, linguistics, philosophy, and computing. It promotes critical discussion and the development of models, methods, and tools that support the structured organization and retrieval of knowledge.

The series is released regularly following each ISKO conference and is available in both physical and digital formats. While earlier volumes were widely indexed, more recent editions continue to circulate actively within academic and professional communities. AKO is often consulted in research, teaching, and professional practice related to knowledge organization.

Over time, Advances in Knowledge Organization have contributed significantly to documenting the development of the field and its responses to changing technological, epistemological, and cultural contexts.

The proceedings from 2012 to 2024 are available from Nomos eLibrary. Since 2026 the proceedings are published in a new website.
