Introduces the standard ISO/IEC 10646 which offers a common base for encoding the written forms of all known languages, so that they can be processed, transmitted, stored and represented by computers worldwide, including information systems from different manufacturers. It is applicable to alphabetic scripts from Latin to Indic, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Armenian, Georgian, Thai and Lao, to East Asian scripts such as Chinese and Japanese and to syllabic scripts such as Korean.-
